On August 6-8, the visit of specialists from the National Nuclear Security Administration of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE/NNSA) and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD/DTRA) was held in the National Nuclear Center of RK.

During the visit, the delegation visited NNC research base, as well as the Degelen and Experimental Field sites of the former STS where the current projects regarding security provision of the former STS and the research reactors conversion were discussed.

It should be reminded that this year remarks 25th anniversary of the cooperation between the Kazakhstan and U.S. organizations. Over these years, the joint projects regarding elimination of nuclear testing infrastructure at the former STS, BN-350 reactor decommissioning, creation of seismic monitoring network to the support of Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, the reduction of research reactor fuel enrichment have been implemented.

Currently, joint operations on NNC RK research reactors conversion are ongoing, and the number of tasks on nuclear testing consequences elimination at STS are being addressed.
