On September 26 to 30, 2016, the delegations from 164 Member States reviewed the IAEA annual report and report of physical security, as well as reporting, program and budget of the Agency. The main issues of General Conference were focused on prospects of nuclear power development, strengthening of international cooperation in the field of nuclear and radiation safety, peaceful use of nuclear energy, nuclear technologies and its application, technical cooperation, increasing of the efficiency and effectiveness of the safeguards.

The delegation of RK including representatives of ME RK, JSC NAC “Kazatomprom”, National Nuclear Center and other organizations was headed by the Permanent Representative of RK to the International Organizations in Vienna, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Austria, H.E. Mr. Kairat Sarybay.

On behalf of the National Nuclear Center the conference was attended by: Erlan Batyrbekov, Director General of RSE NNC RK, Vladimir Vityuk, Head of Laboratory of the “Institute of Atomic Energy” Branch RSE NNC RK, Zhanat Baigazinov, Head of Epidemiological Studies Group of the “Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology” RSE NNC RK.

The statement delivered by the head of Kazakhstani delegation, Kairat Sarybay reflected on the achievements of our country in the field of nuclear nonproliferation, effective cooperation between Kazakhstan and IAEA in the field of peaceful nuclear energy use. The Member States’ attention was drawn to initiatives of the president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev concerning nuclear nonproliferation. The participants were informed about implementation of IAEA Bank of Low-Enriched Uranium Project in Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan delegation conducted meetings with representatives from the European Union, Iran, India, Russia, Argentina, Mongolia to cover a wide range of cooperation issues.

The exhibition of JSC NAC “Kazatomprom” and National Nuclear Center of RK took place in Vienna International Center for the whole period of General Conference.
