On November 5, 2021 the Association "Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan" held the first seminar on nuclear power for journalists of the leading mass media and representatives of press services of specialized agencies of Kazakhstan: "Nuclear Power: Myths and Reality".

The main goal of the workshop was to inform journalists and press-services representatives about nuclear power and modern nuclear technologies in international and national practice.

Today the nuclear industry in many countries of the world is one of the most important segments of the country's economy. According to experts, systematic perspective development of this industry becomes not only one of the main conditions for guaranteeing the energy independence of the country, but also the basis for stable development of the economy as a whole.

The workshop began with a welcoming speech by the Director of the Association "Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan", the moderator of the workshop Seifullina Togzhan Amangeldievna, who wished all participants productive work and quality discussion of issues on the topic of the workshop.

The nuclear industry experts at the seminar were:

  • Irina Lashkarova Tazhibayeva - Executive Director of the Nuclear Technology Safety Center,
  • Timur Miftakhovich Zhantikin - General Director of LLP "Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants",
  • Murat Tuleuzhanovich Kasymzhanov - Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC "Nuclear Technology Park",
  • Sergey Borisovich Kislitsyn - Head of the Radiation Physics of Solid State in RSE "Institute of Nuclear Physics" of ME RK,
  • Seit Abeukhanovich Aliev - Director of Information Center on Atomic Technologies.

At the beginning of the workshop and during the breaks between presentations by the Director of the Information Center for Nuclear Technologies, Seit Abeukhanovich Aliev, intellectual quizzes were held, with questions related to the field of nuclear energy, where participants could apply their knowledge and broaden their horizons in teams and individually. The winners of the quizzes were awarded prizes.

At the workshop, experts discussed such important and relevant topics in the field of nuclear power and technology as:

  • The Nuclear Industry: achievements and ways of development in the world and in Kazakhstan;
  • Non-energy application of nuclear technologies;
  • Nuclear Power Plants: modern technologies and safety.

At the end of each expert presentation, journalists and representatives of press services participated in Q&A sessions, and the most enthusiastic participants were awarded souvenirs.
