On October 12-13, 2022, three countries – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia – hosted the II-th «HackAtom CIS» – an atomic hackathon dedicated to the development of optimal information processing methods for predicting the values of technological parameters of nuclear power plants based on real data and sensor readings.

The event was organized by the State Atomic Energy Corporation «Rosatom», the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan, the Russian House in Ust-Kamenogorsk, the Russian House in Yerevan, National Research Nuclear University «MEPhI» as well as universities of CIS countries, which presented their student teams and acted as contest experts.

9 teams from D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University, S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, I. Razzakov Kyrgyz State Technical University and National Polytechnic University of Armenia took part in the event.

On the first day of the event, teachers of National Research Nuclear University «MEPhI» presented lectures to the audience on nuclear power engineering, application of radiation technologies for environmental protection, and ensuring the safety of nuclear power plants. Then the participants were given a task that they had 24 hours to complete.

On the second day, the defense of works in the «science slam» format was held – for the presentation of the solution of the problems was given 10 minutes, and the jury, which consisted of representatives of all universities – participants, evaluated not only the solution of the problems, but also the originality of ideas and communication skills of the team representatives.

All teams showed a high level of training and passed the test with honor, but since the hackathon is still a competition, the jury summed up and announced the winners and runners-up of the competition, who showed the best results according to experts. The first place was awarded to the team «Alpha Particles» from D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University, the second and third places went to the teams «Solaridze-235» and «The Big Bang Theory», also representing D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University.

«We are all winners, everyone who took part in our competition today. We are engaged in an important cause aimed at improving the well-being of the population of our countries» – summed up the moderator of the event Dmitry Samokhin.
